Cuban-born Elena Casanova attended Alejandro Garcia Caturla Conservatory of Music in Havana, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Pacific Union College, and graduated with her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from University of Redlands. Casanova studied with Robert Bowman, Paul Glover, Annie Kim (a student of the Cuban pianist Jorge Bolet) Louanne Long, Maria D. “Marilola” (Vasquez) Robles, Tom Turinia, Daniel Glover and Dr. Lynn Wheeler.

Casanova has performed a number of concertos with the Ukiah Symphony Orchestra and has also been a soloist with the Symphony of the Redwoods, Lake County Symphony and Pacific Union College Orchestra. Casanova has been a guest of Fort Bragg Center for the Arts, Mendocino College, Concerts Grand Piano Series, Clearlake Performing Arts series, Concerts with Conversation at the Tallman Hotel, Professional Pianist Concert in Ukiah, Lakeport and the Seattle area, Santa Rosa Etude Music Club, and many others.

Her Concerto Repertoire includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, the Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto in D-flat major, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 “The Emperor” and Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major to name a few.

Her enthusiasm for the music of Cuba led her to record a solo piano album released on the MSR Label in 2005. This album “Recordando” is a sampling of the Maestros of Cuban Classical Music: Ignacio Cervantes, Ernesto Lecuona, Manuel Saumell and René Touzet. To quote Fanfare Magazine, “She plays throughout with style, sensitivity, and obvious enjoyment… cheerfully compelling”. The second album “Fuente Sin Igual” was a gift to her father released in 2008 featuring improvisations on his favorite Spanish Hymns. Casanova’s albums “Recordando” and “Fuente Sin Igual” are widely available on iTunes, Amazon.com and can now be streamed through most major platforms. She has co-produced films of many of her live performances with Wine Country Films and are available on DVD and on YouTube Wine Country Films channel and through her channel “ElenaCasanova Music”.

The availability of a rich cultural environment in Mendocino county allowed her to explore music of different genres and work with numerous musicians in the area as a fusion artist. She has worked with Paul McCandles, Alex de Grassi, Will Seigel and friends, cuban singer-songwriter Marcos Pereda as well as pianists Spencer Brewer and Elizabeth MacDougall and can be seen on the stage playing anything from Classical Cuban and Latin Jazz to Chamber works and Concertos.

Casanova continues to be a very active member of the community in Mendocino County, although she is now residing in Solano County. She has been on the Board of Ukiah Community Concert Association for 20 years and continues to boost, energize and promote local organizations like the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the Allegro Scholarship Fund, and many other organizations in Mendocino County.

Music is the center of Casanova’s life. She always delivers with unbreakable spirit, engaging style, joy and passion. She is a musician, educator, influencer, and performer!
